December 2017 Meeting Topic: The History of Cape Canaveral
Presented by: Dr. Sonny Witt
Speaker Information:

Dr. Sonny Witt will speak about the fascinating history of Cape Canaveral, including its indigenous people, Jonathan Dickinson’s 1696 ship wreck, the swimming cat and the mystery women who designed the Cape lighthouse. Dr. Witt’s 20-year USAF career included assignments on the Atlas and Titan programs. In the mid-1980s, after two years of sailing the world with his family, Dr. Witt restarted his career in Melbourne, Florida. The past 30 years, Dr. Witt worked quality assurance for the first GPS launch, NASA’s post-Challenger return to flight and as quality advisor to the 45th Space Wing. Dr. Witt helped establish 45th Space Wing Commander’s Cape Canaveral Reunion Day, allowing descendants to tend to their family cemeteries. Since then, Dr. Witt tells stories of what really happened to the original Cape Canaveral settlers and how we now launch rockets from their past neighborhoods.

Many of our NCMA members are employees of  Harris, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, KSC, and a plethora of other space center related businesses, so I am sure many will find a presentation of Cape Canaveral history to be both informative and entertaining.

This is one meeting you could even bring your spouse, significant other, or a guest too! In fact, should you desire to do this, we will charge the member price for your guest. Please see instructions below for how to register that way.
